Wifi Becoming more affordable

Wifi has taken the world by storm.  The first generation was aimed at 2.4Ghz and literally had the idea of linking portable computer hardware to networks without the use of cables. Initially it was prohibitively expensive but it recently became so affordable and the speed penalty that one had to sacrifice has benn virtually negated.

Through the lessons the technicians learned about Wifi they started looking at 5.8Ghz which brought along a lot of extra functionality.  The fact was that the radiospectrum requires much larger antennas when operating at 2.4 Ghz and that the available spectrum at 2.4 Ghz is much smaller with fewer channels than at 5.8Ghz.

Apart from all these factors one also have fact that the effective radiated power when compared to the power input required at 2.4Ghz is much lower than the effective radiated power when compared to the input at 5.8Ghz.  Further the freshnel zone of the transmissions at 2.4Ghz is considerably larger, requiring that much more drive power than when using 5.8Ghz - and then last but not least the distance at which the communication can be effectively completed with 5.8 Ghz WIFI is more or less 40% to 60% further than 2.4Ghz Wifi.
